Loukas Bartatilas was born in Athens, Greece, in 1981.

He holds a diploma of Architecture from the University of Thessaly, Volos, Greece (1999-2006) and an MFA in “Public Art & New Artistic Strategies” from the Bauhaus University Weimar, Weimar, Germany (2008-2010). In 2009, he participated in the workshop Chicago Bauhaus Labs, organised by the School of the Art Institute, Chicago, USA. Since 2014, he is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, Bauhaus University of Weimar, Germany.

From 2009, as a founding member of the artistic group Weimar Public, he participated in multiple group exhibitions, including “Expanded Ecologies,” at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens, Greece, 2009 (curated by Daphne Vitali), the artistic residency “Home in Crisis”, Kassel, 2012 (parallel event of Documenta 12) and in the auxiliary events and pieces of the Greek Pavilion’s project: “The Ark: Old Seeds for New Cultures,” at the 12th Venice Biennale of Architecture, 2010 (curated by Phoebe Giannisi and Zissis Kotionis). He has also participated in various urban and artistic initiatives in Weimar (KoCA-Inn, 2009), in Berlin (Kulturpark, 2012) and in Athens (domain_Agora, 2014).

Working on the interdisciplinary spaces between art and architecture, he is interested in experiments and projects related with spatial and social urban contexts, through participatory and artistic practices. His work investigates how small scale individual initiatives contribute to the creation of the public space.

He lives and works between Athens and Berlin.
